Rep. Davis Announces Helping Households Bill Package

SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) has introduced a legislative package to help Illinois families thrive. The Helping Households Bill Package contains six bills to remove burdens, reduce costs, and increase access to critical services for Illinois residents.

“We can’t just talk about promoting strong family values, we need to do the work to make life easier for everyone who wants to live, raise a family, and retire in Illinois,” said Rep. Davis. “Especially when it comes to our senior population, Illinois households are struggling to keep up under the ever-expanding cost of living. Let’s come together and pass common-sense legislation to help residents across the entire state.”

The Helping Households Bill Package includes the following bills:

  • House Bill 1092 increases the Low-Income Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption threshold from $65,000 to $85,000.
  • House Bill 1099 doesn’t count immediate family living in a home for less than 12 months as household income under the Low-Income Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption.
  • House Bill 1100 allows patients to access electronic medical records for no fee.
  • House Bill 1102 increases access to cancer screenings.

This package also includes two bills that have yet to be filed:

  • A bill to freeze property taxes for citizens with disabilities who often require additional square footage for medical equipment, such as wheelchairs.
  • A bill to help professionals working third shifts, like firefighters, janitors, nurses, and police officers, with child support as they’re currently penalized by the overnight calculation.

In summary, the Helping Households Bill Package 1) broadens access to healthcare, 2) lowers people’s cost of living, and 3) partners with working parents.

Helping Households is one of four legislative packages filed by Rep. Davis in the 104th General Assembly.
