E-News Updates from Rep. Jed Davis | February 2025

Welcome to my February e-newsletter!

Last month, the Illinois General Assembly met for its ‘Lame Duck’ session, and sadly, it was more of the same with little meaningful legislation. Unfortunately, a few bad bills passed. One example is Karina’s Law. While well-intentioned, it tramples on the constitutional rights of the accused. I will never support legislation undermining our fundamental freedoms, no matter how noble it sounds.

Meanwhile, the 104th General Assembly is now in session, and the far-left wasted no time pushing their radical agenda – proposals for legalized prostitution and slavery reparations are already on the table (more on these proposals below).

While they’re focusing on extreme policies, I’ve been filing common-sense legislation putting families, taxpayers, and workers first. So far, I’ve introduced 30 bills, grouped into four key areas:

✔ Helping Households – Lowering the cost of living and easing tax burdens.

✔ Protecting Kids – Strengthening parental rights and child safety.

✔ Promoting Careers – Expanding career opportunities and reducing government red tape.

✔ Preserving Freedoms – Defending constitutional rights and pushing back against government overreach.

As always, if you have thoughts, concerns, or ideas – reach out anytime. I’m here to serve you!

If we’re serious about supporting strong families, we need to make it easier to live, work, and retire in Illinois – not harder. That’s why I’ve introduced several bills aimed at helping households keep more of their hard-earned money:

✔ HB 1092 – Raises the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Exemption threshold from $65,000 to $85,000, helping more seniors stay in their homes.

✔ HB 1099 – Ensures temporary family members living in a home don’t count toward a household’s income for tax exemption purposes.

✔ HB 1100 – Requires free access to electronic medical records.

✔ HB 1102 – Expands access to cancer screenings for early detection and prevention.

I’ve been appointed to seven key committees, giving me a strong voice in shaping policy on family protections, fiscal responsibility, and personal freedoms:

✅ Appropriations: General Services

✅ Appropriations: Health & Human Services

✅ Adoption & Child Welfare

✅ Energy & Environment

✅ Judiciary – Civil

✅ Labor & Commerce

✅ Mental Health & Addiction

I’ll be using my time on these committees to push back against radical policies, help lower the cost of living, and fight for real solutions on behalf of Illinois families.

Illinois Democrats just filed a bill to legalize prostitution. This reckless proposal would open the floodgates for human trafficking and further exploit the most vulnerable members of our society.

Perhaps this bill is an attempt to appease the radical far-left or a misguided effort to address our $3 billion budget deficit. Either way, it’s reckless. The people of Illinois deserve leaders who will protect them, not assist with their exploitation.

Let’s send a clear message: Illinois should be protecting its citizens – not enabling predators.

I’ve launched a petition opposing this dangerous idea, and I encourage you to add your name today at RepJedDavis.com or by clicking here.

Good news: my 2025 Legislative Survey is now open, and your input is essential to shaping my legislative priorities. This nine-question survey covers key policy issues impacting Illinois. I want to hear from you!
