Hello and welcome to my April 2025 E-Newsletter!
Things are moving quickly in Springfield as we push through the heart of the spring legislative session.
The House committee deadline has now passed, meaning any bills not making it out of committee are essentially dead for the year. Deadline week saw a flood of legislation move, with a total of 643 bills advancing: 579 (90%) sponsored by Democrats and 64 (10%) sponsored by Republicans. These numbers show we’re a bit out of balance.
Unfortunately, some of the bills passed were deeply concerning. One example is HB 2827, misleadingly named the “Homeschool Act,” which poses serious threats to educational freedoms and parental rights.
But there were some bright spots. I’m proud to share HB3011—my bill requiring elected community college board members to take an oath upholding the US and Illinois Constitutions—passed out of committee. Believe it or not, community college trustees are currently the only elected officials in Illinois not required to take this oath. HB3011 fixes ensures these officials affirm their commitment to the foundational principles of our republic: freedom and liberty.
As always, don’t hesitate to contact my district office. I’m here to serve you and your family.
2025 Legislative Agenda

In an effort to be more accessible and transparent, I recently rolled out my 2025 Legislative Agenda with a new page on my website containing a full list of bills I filed. This page is written in plain language, with regular updates showing where bills stand in the legislative process.
As your state representative, it should be easy to see what I’m working on in Springfield. Transparency isn’t just a buzzword—it’s something I prioritized from day one, and I hope this new resource helps continue building trust between us.
So far this year, I filed 35 bills across four key priorities: Helping Households, Protecting Kids, Promoting Careers, and Preserving Freedoms.

Response to Committee Passage of ‘Homeschool Act’

HB 2827, the “Homeschool Act,” was passed in committee earlier this month over the objection of tens of thousands of families choosing home or private school for their children. This bill mandates non-public elementary and secondary schools register annually with the Illinois State Board of Education and also requires homeschools to fill out a Homeschool Declaration Form or risk fines and even imprisonment. It further requires administrators to submit personal information about themselves and their students to state and local authorities.
I’m incredibly disheartened by the passage of the ‘Homeschool Act’, an example of extreme government overreach, infringing on the rights of Illinois parents. While Illinoisans struggle to stay afloat with the rising cost of living and skyrocketing property taxes, why is this issue the General Assembly’s focus? What a ridiculous example of misplaced priorities!
The public has been vocal about their opposition to this bill. Over 48,000 motivated residents filed witness slips in opposition to HB 2827. My petition to support homeschool freedoms has over 2,800 signatures.
Yet what I find most concerning is Illinois Democrats completely ignored the will of the people. Illinoisans couldn’t have been clearer: they don’t want the state to interfere with a parent’s right to choose the best education for their children. Regardless, Illinois Democrats silenced their opposition by only allowing two opponents to speak against this bill in committee. Wow!
Every single day after we gavel into session, multiple members of the majority party stand up and fearmonger about how the Trump administration is a threat to our democracy. They seem to have missed the irony here because the only threat to democracy I see is their attempt to suppress the will and voice of the people.
Press Conference to Protect Women’s Spaces

I recently stood alongside concerned parents at a press conference speaking out against a disturbing incident at a Deerfield school, where young female students were forced to change in front of a biological male.
First and foremost, I want to recognize the Georgas family for their courage. It’s no small thing to come down to Springfield and speak truth in the face of a political machine too often ignoring the voices of everyday families.
What happened in Deerfield isn’t only outrageous, it’s wrong. No young girl should ever be forced to undress in front of a biological male – period. And to have school staff enforce this? It’s not education. It’s indoctrination under pressure.
This story didn’t happen in a vacuum. This story and others are the consequences of radical policies being pushed out of Springfield. They’re putting politics ahead of common sense, and it’s our kids – our families – who are paying the price.
It shouldn’t be controversial to say young girls deserve privacy and safety. It’s common sense, and it’s time Springfield started listening.
Sign my Petition to Oppose Far-Left Legislation

Illinois Democrats filed a bill to legalize prostitution. This reckless proposal would open the floodgates for human trafficking and further exploit the most vulnerable members of our society.
Perhaps this bill is an attempt to appease the radical far-left or a misguided effort to address our $3 billion budget deficit. Either way, it’s reckless. The people of Illinois deserve leaders who will protect them, not assist with their exploitation.
Let’s send a clear message: Illinois should be protecting its citizens – not enabling predators.
I’ve launched a petition opposing this dangerous idea, and I encourage you to add your name today at RepJedDavis.com or by clicking here.
