SPRINGFIELD – Today, State Representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) released his Spend Less, Live Better FY26 budget proposal. This 18-page document is a potential roadmap to a fiscally responsible, balanced budget without requiring ‘revenue enhancements’.
“It’s no secret – spending in Springfield is absolutely out of control,” said Davis. “We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a self-control problem. But we can’t just keep complaining about it, we need to offer a realistic solution.
“Illinoisans cannot afford to continue footing the bill for a bloated budget year after year, when they are already making sacrifices to make ends meet. This budget proposal is a conversation starter – a way to show Illinoisans that good governance is possible.”
Highlights include:
- Spending capped at $44 billion, a 20% reduction from the Governor’s proposal.
- Returns $1,500 to households making less than $100,000 per year.
- Reduces wasteful spending without compromising essential services.
Davis concluded, “This report proposes a smarter budget for a better Illinois, ultimately outlining practical ways to lower your cost of living. The result is more money in your pocket, where it belongs.”
