E-News Updates from Rep. Jed Davis | June 2025

Hello and welcome to my June 2025 E-Newsletter!

On May 31st, we passed the largest budget in Illinois state history before adjourning our Spring session for the year. Unfortunately, the last few weeks of session were a chaotic time with several bad bills being rammed through at the 11th hour. From utilizing shell bills to suspending the rules they created, House Democrats pulled out all the stops, forcing through their radical agenda.

As always, reach out to my district office anytime. I’m here to serve.

Illinoisans should be appalled by the FY26 budget. Not just in content, but in the way this $55 billion budget was passed. Once again, this budget was passed with minimal review time, under the cover of darkness, and without any input from Republican legislators.

The Democrats want to talk about equity and inclusion, well, what is equitable about preventing millions of Illinoisans from having their needs represented in the budget process? What is inclusive about locking the door on bipartisan cooperation and the open exchange of ideas? Illinois Democrats continue to teach a masterclass in hypocrisy and manipulation.

And, when you think it can’t get any worse, this budget includes a pay raise for legislators. At a time when Illinois families can barely even afford groceries, increasing our salaries is abhorrent. I am ashamed of the greed of the Illinois General Assembly.

To the people of Illinois: Your government does not have to operate this way. You deserve transparent, ethical, and balanced governance valuing every one of your tax dollars.

However, we can’t just complain about the problems without being willing to work finding solutions. I actually introduced a budget proposal earlier in May.

Highlights include:

  • Spending capped at $44 billion, a 20% reduction from the Governor’s proposal.
  • Returning $1,500 to households making less than $100,000 per year.
  • Reducing wasteful spending without compromising essential services.

This budget proposal is a conversation starter – a way of showing good governance is possible.
