Following Governor Pritzker’s State of the State Address, State Representative Jed Davis (R-Newark) released the following statement:
“The people of Illinois already pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. This trend of new spending proposed by the Governor will mean raising taxes in the future. It is unsustainable and does nothing to help businesses or families.
“President Reagan said it best, ‘The top nine most terrifying words in the English Language are: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’ Sadly, Governor Pritzker is the perfect exemplification of this quote. Year after year, he claims that he wants to help the people of our state, but his policies demonstrate the opposite.
“Today’s State of the State address is nothing more than the same old same old. It is time for Governor Pritzker to hold himself accountable. This budget continues to move us in the wrong direction and will detrimentally harm families and the hard-working people of Illinois.”
