YORKVILLE – State Representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) is taking action to jumpstart Illinois’ struggling economy with the Promoting Careers Bill Package, a set of six bills aimed at expanding opportunities, growing jobs, and supporting small businesses.
“Let’s be honest: Illinois’ economy is in trouble,” said Rep. Davis. “Job growth is stagnant, businesses—big and small—are shutting down, and too many young people are leaving for better opportunities elsewhere. It’s time for action. The Promoting Careers Bill Package tackles these issues head-on by fostering job growth, increasing educational opportunities, and uplifting small businesses.”
The package includes:
- HB1093: Allows new businesses to fully deduct their first year of income, making it easier for startups to get off the ground.
- HB1094: Helps rental companies fight theft and reduce loss, keeping costs down for small business owners.
- HB1098: Lowers firefighter eligibility age from 21 to 18, getting more young people into critical public safety roles.
- HB 1101: Expands access to the Teach Illinois Scholarship Program, helping recruit and retain teachers.
- HB 1112: Opens the door for highly skilled trade workers to become educators, even without a bachelor’s degree, ensuring we have more experts teaching real-world skills.
- HB 1718: Eases restrictions on snowplow drivers in small townships, ensuring rural communities get the help they need.
“These are common-sense, bipartisan solutions,” added Rep. Davis. “If we want to keep jobs in Illinois, we need to make it easier to work, start a business, and train the next generation. These bills are a step in the right direction to turn things around for our state.”
