SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jed Davis (R-Yorkville) recently introduced legislation to cap excessive new rules, eliminate outdated regulations, and require state agencies to offset the cost of unfunded mandates on both businesses and local governments.
“Illinois businesses, citizens, and local governments are drowning in regulations. These regulations are driving up costs and stifling growth,” said Rep. Davis. “It’s time to lift the shackles of government bureaucracy so residents may prosper in a free-market economy. By cutting unnecessary red tape, we’ll create environments where businesses and families thrive. The net result is lowering your cost of living.”
The proposed legislation includes:
- House Bill 1650: Establishes an ongoing review process to remove outdated regulations in the Illinois Administrative Code.
- House Bill 1937: Caps the number of regulations imposed on businesses and residents to prevent excessive government overreach.
- House Bill 3668: Requires state agencies to assess and offset the financial burden of new regulations before imposing them.
“These bills are a step toward real regulatory reform, protecting taxpayers and restoring economic freedoms,” Davis added. “We can’t afford to let government drive up costs any further – let’s bring common sense back to Springfield.”
These bills are all included in Rep. Davis’ Preserving Freedoms Bill Package.
