E-News Updates from Rep. Jed Davis | July 2025

I hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day weekend!

We had a busy June back home in the 75th. Our third annual Fishing Derby was a huge hit! Thanks to all the partners who helped make this event our best derby yet: Illinois Conservation Police, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Forever Organization, Plano Molding, and Oswegoland Fishin’ Fools.

We also dug into one of the biggest issues facing Illinois families – property taxes.

I hosted a Property Tax Roundtable in partnership with Americans for Prosperity, who helped moderate the conversation. The panel consisted of officials from the following local governments:

  • Bristol Kendall Fire Department
  • City of Plano
  • Kendall County
  • Newark Fire Department
  • Plano Community School District 88
  • United City of Yorkville
  • Village of Oswego

It wasn’t just another meeting – it was an open, solutions-driven discussion for tackling the broken property tax system in this state.

High taxes are pricing families out of their homes, and the system is rigged to reward insiders while punishing working people. This roundtable was one more step toward changing this trend.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared ideas. This conversation is just getting started.

As always, reach out to my district office anytime. I’m here to serve.

Session may be over, but the damage is now hitting home.

As of July 1st, Illinois families are staring down over a billion dollars in new taxes – courtesy of the FY26 budget, rammed through by Democrats. Despite every call for common-sense budgeting, they pushed through an unbalanced and unsustainable plan, built on squeezing more from your wallet.

You’re now paying more for:

  • Cigarettes
  • Gas
  • Parking
  • Phone Bills
  • Ride Shares
  • Sports Betting and Video Gaming
  • Streaming

I voted no on every one of these hikes. Why? Because government should live within its means, just like you.

We don’t have a revenue problem; we have a spending problem. Let’s stop raising the cost of living and start providing honest, responsible budgeting, respecting taxpayers.

As of July 1st, the Child Abuse Notice Act is now officially law.

This bipartisan effort provides kids facing abuse or trafficking a lifeline – clear information for getting help when they need it most. It’s a small but meaningful step toward protecting some of our most vulnerable.

A big thanks to everyone rolling up their sleeves and helping get this legislation across the finish line. It was an honor championing the process in the General Assembly, showcasing accomplishments when setting politics aside and prioritizing families and communities.

My summer reading program is back! To participate, Kindergarteners through 5th graders must read 8 books during their summer vacation. Books for local library programs are also acceptable, and books over 150 pages count as two books.

All participants who read 8 books will receive a certificate celebrating their achievement and a voucher for free ice cream! Submissions are due by August 15, 2025, and can be done by dropping off a completed paper form at my district office or by submitting the online form here.

Are you looking to visit one of the incredible museums across the Chicagoland area? Utilize my office’s FREE museum pass, allowing admission to any participating museum for up to four people.

Reservations are required and must be made by completing our request form. You may access this form by clicking here.
