E-News Updates from Rep. Jed Davis | May 2026

Hello everyone, and welcome to my May E-Newsletter!

Despite the rapidly approaching session adjourment on May 31st, I have little progress to report. Typically, the entire month of May is a madhouse at the Capitol as we pass bills late into the night.

As of May 19th, here’s where we sit. The House passed 342 bills. Only 37 of them were Republican bills, meaning Democrats passed 305 of their own bills – almost 90%!

Talk about skewed. These numbers deny a proper voice to Republican legislators and the constituents living within their districts.

I’ll continue sharing updates on Facebook and my website, along with a full recap in next month’s newsletter.

Or, if you really want to see how the process unfolds, you can always tune in and watch yourself.

4th Annual Fishing Derby – June 20th

All local families are invited to join us for our fourth annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 20th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Silver Springs State Park – Loon Lake.

Father’s Day weekend is a great opportunity for families to make memories and enjoy time together outdoors. We’re excited to bring this event back with the help of incredible community partners.

The first 50 children in attendance will receive free rods and reels. Additional prizes and perks will be provided courtesy of Plano Molding and Plano Culver’s. Illinois Conservation Police will also be on-site providing fishing safety information and assisting participants with baiting hooks. No fishing license is required to participate.

Rep. Davis Introduces Bill to Create Guardrails Around New Data Centers

Last month, I introduced legislation to ensure local residents have a direct voice in decisions surrounding the placement of large-scale data centers in their communities.

House Bill 5755 requires public notice and a hearing for any proposed data center, and also allows residents to trigger a referendum if enough signatures are gathered. If voters choose to weigh in, the final decision rests with them.

This bill is rooted in a simple principle – major decisions affecting a community should be decided by the people who live there. We’ve seen how quickly these projects can move, and how strongly residents feel. This proposal gives them a meaningful, real voice.

This legislation is not about stopping development, but about restoring balance in the decision-making process. Some communities may welcome these projects. Others may not. This bill doesn’t pick sides – it puts the decision where it belongs, in the hands of local voters.

The legislation was inspired by strong community engagement across the district, where residents expressed a desire for greater transparency and a more direct role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods.

For something with this level of impact – on infrastructure and quality of life – residents deserve more than a meeting. They deserve a vote.

2026 Summer Reading Program

As a parent, I know the importance of encouraging students to remain active readers during the summer months. I have many fond memories of summer reading as a kid, and I hope this program helps create those same memories for local students.

Students from Kindergarten through 5th grade may participate by reading eight or more books before August 14, 2026. Books containing more than 150 words count as two books. Students completing the program will receive a certificate recognizing their achievement, along with a voucher for free ice cream.

After completing their reading, students should submit their forms with a parent or guardian verifying the information. Online forms can be completed by clicking here or by visiting RepJedDavis.com. Paper forms are available at Rep. Davis’ district office, located at 1925 S. Bridge Street in Yorkville.

Sign the Petition: Tell Governor Pritzker to Invest in Illinois Children

Illinois families deserve the best opportunities for their children, and a new federal program makes that easier than ever.

The Educational Choice for Children Act offers up to $1,700 in federal tax credits to fund scholarships, tutoring, and educational support for K-12 students. All Governor Pritzker has to do is opt in.

Colorado’s Democratic Governor called it a “no-brainer”. Colorado, New York, and 27 other states have already said yes. It’s time for Illinois to join them.

Tell Governor Pritzker to say YES for Illinois children! Click here to sign the petition.
